Motivation: In 2023, I bought a dual zone wine refrigerator from Amazon, but the compressor was dead after one year. Now, Amazon has many different 15 in wine refrigerators with dual zones. But the failure of my previous dual zone unit made me focus more on the product quality instead of features. EdgeStar belongs to Ferguson Enterprises, which gives me some confidence in this brand. So, I bought this wine refrigerator out of many other choices. After receiving the unit, the LG compressor in the unit is a reassuring evidence to me that the components are well selected from reputable manufacturers. Flaw of dual zone design: Another reason for me to give up a dual zone wine refrigerator is that the two zones of my previous unit have an air passage between the two zones, which is the gap between the door and the insulation layer for two zones. I put a booklet on the top of the insulation layer and close the door. This makes the outmost edge of the booklet touches the door. Then I measure the distance between this edge to the insulation layer front face, which is the opening gap between two zones and has about a width of more than 0.5 in (see the two attached pictures). Not sure about how two zones can maintain two different temperatures with such a significant open air passage between them, because the warmer air in the bottom compartment will naturally rise to the top compartment through this gap and gradually increase the temperature in the top. So heat exchange between the two zones happens continuously through this gap. Performance: The compressor works very quietly and achieves the desired temperature of 54F quickly with a room temperature of 77F (watch the attached video to hear the noise level). The temperature display only shows the desired temperature (not the actual internal temperature). I put my own thermometer inside. For a temperature set at 54F, my thermometer recorded a range of internal temperatures from 48F to 58F for a 6 hr period at a top location after reaching the desired temperature. See the attached picture. Another overnight measurement in a bottom location shows a range from 60.8F to 63.3F (see another attached picture). So, there is some temperature difference at different locations of this refrigerator, but good enough for me. If you want a precise temperature controlled wine refrigerator, you should consider the $2000+ models from Summit and U-line. I don't trust any $600- unit. I also like the design decision of not attaching an external door handle. An attached external door handle tends to make the door insulation not as tight as this unit. Very pleased with this wine cooler. Only time will tell if it was built to last.
