How to Size a Chandelier or Pendant For Your Space

Dining Room Table

We recommend leaving approximately 30"- 36" between the bottom of your fixture and the surface of your dining table. The width of your fixture should be at least 6" narrower than the width of your table.

Kitchen Table

Choose a fixture with a width measuring between 1/2 and 3/4 the diameter of around table. As with other surfaces, we recommend leaving approximately 30"- 36" between the bottom of your fixture and the top of your table.

Kitchen Island (Linear)

The key to sizing a linear light fixture is proportion. We recommend selecting a light measuring no more than 2/3 the length of the table or kitchen island. Consider hanging a pair of fixtures for extra long surfaces.

Kitchen Island (Pendants)

We recommend installing ceiling fixtures 30"-36" from the surface of your kitchen island. When installing multiple fixtures, the widest part of the fixtures should be spaced a minimum of 30" apart for optimal airflow, light spread, and visibility.

How to Size a Vanity Light or Outdoor Wall Light For Your Space

Vanity Lights Next To Mirror

To evenly illuminate a bathroom mirror from either side, we recommend mounting your sconce(s) just above eye level, or about 60"- 65" from the floor to the center height of the sconce backplate.

Vanity Lights Above Mirror

The ideal linear bath light will measure at least 3/4 the width of the mirror but not extend over its edges. For larger mirrors, consider mounting a pair of evenly spaced linear sconces.

Single Lantern on One Side of Front Door

Position the light fixture on the same side as the doorknob to see your visitors’ faces when opening the door at night. Mount the center of the fixture at eye level, or 60"- 65" from the ground.

Pair of Lanterns on Either Side of Door

When mounting exterior wall lights beside a door, position the fixtures at eye level, or 60"- 65" from the ground. For the best spread of light, the fixture should measure at least 1/4 the height of the door.

Very very nice product. Quoizel packaged this lamp so that the delivery truck would have to drive over the package to damage it. The reason I did not give it 5 stars is because the pull chain is not well designed. The chain beads must be pulled through a small hole at an odd angle. Its hard to pull through and I'm sure will break the chain before long.

I don’t usually splurge like this, but I had my eye on this lamp for years waiting for a half-reasonable price drop, and when it did (briefly), I pounced on it. Unfortunately, if there had been more (and more useful) reviews on this product, I may likely have passed on it.

The lamp unlit (or lit with extremely low watt bulbs) is as it appears on the product page--a unique, stylized statement piece, much of it of excellent quality. It has 3 lighting options. It takes a candelabra bulb in the base pillar, and 2 regular bulbs under the shade. Fits in well with our mission furniture and decor. Aside from this, there are too many design miscues that detract from the lamp’s appearance (when properly lit) and function.

PRO

- Excellent packaging to prevent shipping damage.
- Solidly built.
- Intricately detailed w/o sloppy workmanship.
- Three lighting options: base only, top only, base and top.
- A candelabra bulb was provided for the base/stem.

NEUTRAL

- Lighting options are controlled by a single pull chain. It streamlines the look, adds to the stylized appearance, and eliminates fumbling for multiple chains—but has to be pulled 2 or 3 times to control most lighting options.

CON

- As a reviewer noted, the pull chain does not operate smoothly and will likely break over time from strain and friction, due to how it’s designed to position it away from the base. Our Emerson ceiling fans have a similar chain-positioning issue, but they operate more smoothly as the chain holes have durable silicone ring/gaskets, and the chain angle designed to be less extreme.

- Light coming off the top shade is not uniform, especially if you use clear bulbs, e.g., “Edison” bulbs--and you can actually see the bulbs’ filaments through the shade when lighted. Some may like the effect, but we find it distracting. (Perhaps why the shade is not shown properly lit up on the product page?) We were hoping for a more uniform and warmer glow. Frosted bulbs can eliminate the filament issue, and diminishes but doesn’t eliminate the uneven lighting. (Note in the photos that the 2 bulbs under the shade are 4 watt LED (40 watt equivalent).

- The 2 lights under the shade cannot be operated independently. Either they’re both on or both off.

- The top part of the lamp where the shade affixes to the lamp is needlessly difficult to install and adjust to allow proper tightening of the shade (ours is still rather loose). It also looks odd as stainless-steel threads are not fully covered and are visible.

This is a heavy, well made, beautiful lamp. I expect that from Quoizel, have several throughout my house and they all are well made. This lights up beautifully, love the rich copper colors.
The only negative is the shade is pretty high so i can see the underside of the bulbs at eye level (I think i will look around for non-traditional shaped bulbs) and it lets out too much light at the bottom. BUT, i'm hoping i can solve that problem.
Quoizels are pricey, but so well made. I'm very happy with this one.

The lamp is beautiful, but I'm not sure it's worth the price. Unless price is no object or you absolutely have to have this particular design, I'd recommend looking closely at lower priced lamps. As pointed out by others, the pull chain is a bit difficult to operate. It appears that the manufacturer tried to address this problem by adding a small arm that changes the angle at which the chain pulls the on/off switch; however, it's not an ideal solution. It's not a problem for me though because the lamp is plugged into a switched outlet operated by a wall switch. Also, the bulbs in the lamp will show through the shade when the lamp is turned on. That might bother some people, while others might not care.
